Chicken Christmas Pictures

Ever try to pose your chickens for Christmas pictures? lol Not an easy task at all! Chickens are not overly fond of being dressed up, but will usually sit still for a few minutes while you snap a quick pic.

Chicken Pictures: Christmas

Here is attempt 1, with the hat:

chicken with santa hat on

She did not like that hat at all! It was a little girls hair clip, so I just clipped it to Buttercup's "hair". She kept holding her head to one side and looking away. Finally I gave up and just set the hat on the floor next to her! She posed pretty for me for attempt 2:

I did have several other Silkies I was going to bring in for pictures, but decided to attempt that another day!

Hope you had a great Christmas!

Funny chicken names, by color.

Naming chickens can be hard! Especially when you have a bunch of chickens already. I often feel like I've run out of new names. I tried letting the kids name them but that doesn't always work well. Kids have a funny way of looking at things, and they tend to really get stuck on their favorite things.

Brooder full of baby chicks, all the same color

Because of this, I've had some strangely named chickens in the past. I've also had a lot of boring names, so in the interest of trying to be clever, I made list of my best chicken names based on the chickens feather color.

Of course the reason I needed this list is kind of funny...

Dollar store poop scraper

I bought 2 new poop scrapers at the dollar store today. They are great at removing poop from the roosts and poop boards. The best part about these ones......they have a hand cover to keep the poop off of me for once! Lol Ok, I know they are ice scrapers. I usually keep plastic paint scrapers in all my coops, but they tend to get lost and I often get the poop on my hand. Yuck! These are larger (read...harder to lose) and more sturdy. I figured that for $1 each, I can't go wrong!

Chicken coop equipment

I'm a pretty big fan of using dollar store items for the chickens. I always buy dog bowls, puppy pee pads, band aids, sponges, baby bottle brushes, marbles, and colorful zip-ties at the Dollar Tree. In the Spring they also carry buckets and butterfly nets (good for catching chicks). Why pay more, right?
