They will wait for it to dry out...or to turn from mud back into dust.

LisaLA Muranohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00827994015402999638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8613339135823962078.post-89977262737784400132020-04-10T17:18:39.379-04:002020-04-10T17:18:39.379-04:00Its great as long as the dust bath doesn’t get wet...Its great as long as the dust bath doesn’t get wet, ash will scald the chickens skin!,Foxinthehenhousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09913285948134751621noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8613339135823962078.post-36236323951483198512014-05-21T22:59:30.222-04:002014-05-21T22:59:30.222-04:00Great idea~

I would still add some sand though, just to give it a little weight and keep it from turning into an ash mud bog when it rains.
Good luck with your new chickens!

~LLA Muranohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00827994015402999638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8613339135823962078.post-90704555303807448892014-05-21T09:50:04.229-04:002014-05-21T09:50:04.229-04:00That's the best part about woods ash, most peo...That's the best part about woods ash, most people have a ton of it and it's free! Many people don't add the DE. You'll still get great benefits with just sand and wood ash. I've filled the chickens badly chosen dust bathing areas with larger sized rocks to get them to move on to a new area. It usually works, and I just remove them a few weeks later.
Good luck!

~LLA Muranohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00827994015402999638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8613339135823962078.post-46937629994736593272014-05-16T12:34:07.952-04:002014-05-16T12:34:07.952-04:00Interesting. I've never heard of mixing both! ...But we're new to chickens, so that's not saying much. :) Ours have decided to dust bathe right next to the rosemary bushes, which I hear is good for parasites. Who says chickens aren't smart? :)Alicia Owenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16934137778077147426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8613339135823962078.post-67682373412432722532014-05-15T20:34:00.965-04:002014-05-15T20:34:00.965-04:00Very interesting! Mine seem to prefer to bath under mom's lilacs, so although they're in no danger etc. it's potentially threatening to mom's bushes lolHeidihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10649598294339953414noreply@blogger.com
