Chickens chickens everywhere

It just occurred to me how many chicken things we have. I don't mean chicken supplies....I mean things with chickens on them! We have signs, decorations, kitchenware and figurines. There are useful items, mascots, toys and things that 'make you go hmmm'. We have new stuff, old stuff and stuff that I'm not sure when we got it. Oddly enough, much of it is from back when we were city slickers. Weird right? We even had rubber duckies as an accent at out wedding 2 years before having waterfowl was even a thought. An omen perhaps? Either way, our house is filled with them and I thought I would devote a post a week to introducing you to a few of our non-living poultry residents.
First up: this sign was a gift for hubby's birthday a few years back. Hand-cut and stained, it was supposed to hang above the building we sell chicks out of but we are too worried about getting it ruined to put it out in the rain and snow. It resides inside the garage instead. Eventually it will move outside....but not till we have somewhere protected picked out for it.

These are a pair of the duckies that were on all of our tables as wedding favors years ago. We ended up with a few extra sets and these guys rode on the dashboard of our SUV for a few years before moving into the garage when we traded in that vehicle. They now sit above the door...however if you slam the door too hard they have been known to 'fly' down! lol Luckily, they're very light!

There was one other duck in the wedding, it was a silver 'rubber ducky' style coin bank. Our youngest son was the ring bearer and he carried this ducky with the rings tied around its neck on a satin ribbon. It was absolutely adorable and the ducky still sits in a curio cabinet in our living room.

We have about a dozen other duckies and chickens in the same curio cabinet, but we'll have to save those details/pictures for another time.

Have a great week!

  1. Great sign! I'd put a couple of coats of exterior clear coat finish on it. Too nice to not be seen :) Great little silver ducky!

  3. I just posted about the same thing on Saturday! How funny neither one of us knew we were collecting chickens, and for me it was WAY before there was ever a thought of raising them. http://movingontothepast.blogspot.com/2013/08/one-day-i-realized-i-collect-chickens.html
